RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a technology that uses radio waves for identification. Instead of scanning a barcode “line-of-sight,” the RFID tag simply needs to be within range of the reader—the data is read automatically, without the need for manual aiming.
The principle is simple: data is stored on a memory chip (RFID tag) that communicates with a reader via an antenna using radio waves. The information collected during the manufacturing or logistics process is processed by software (middleware) and transmitted to your information system.
An RFID system consists of a tag, a reader with an antenna, and software. The key difference between tags is their power source.

Is RFID more expensive than a barcode?
The initial investment in RFID (tags, readers, software) is generally higher than for barcodes. However, the return on investment comes from time savings during inventory counts and fewer errors—for larger volumes, RFID often pays for itself.
Can RFID be implemented alongside an existing barcode system?
Yes, the two technologies are commonly combined—for example, a barcode on an individual item and RFID on a shipping unit or pallet.
How long does it take to implement an RFID solution?
Typically 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the scale of operations and the number of locations where RFID is to be deployed.
How long does deployment take?
The Start package can be launched within a few days of installing the readers. For the Business and Enterprise packages, the time required depends on the number of locations and the extent of automation.
