Customer Request
The customer requested that information about the batches of individual sheet metal coils—which serve as the raw material for the final products—be entered into the database so that it would be possible to trace which batches of final products were manufactured from a given batch of raw material. If a material defect is detected, it must be possible to trace back all pallets in production that contain sheet metal from the defective batch. The customer requested the ability to print reports on a laser printer, with the option to select delivery notes from a specific date, a specific batch of raw material, etc. It must be possible to display how many conforming and non-conforming pieces were produced at each workstation, as well as how many finished products were produced from a single batch of input material.
Proposed Solution
The customer equipped the workstations with PCs connected to the network. The input workstations were equipped with DATAMAX I-Class printers for printing labels to mark materials with barcodes containing an internal number and the quantity. After logging into the program, the operator enters all necessary product data and scans the barcode from the sheet metal coil. After the coil is cut, the sheets are placed onto a pallet. Once the pallet is full, the operator enters the number of good and defective pieces; the record is saved to the database, and a SHIPPING DOCUMENT with a unique serial number in the form of a barcode is printed. The shipping document is placed in the pallet. At each subsequent workstation, the worker scans the code on the work order before performing the next operation and, upon completion of the operation, enters the number of good and defective pieces.
An intranet application was developed to generate reports, block non-conforming products, and manage the entire solution, enabling access to the data from any PC connected to the company’s intranet.
